HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) — [UPDATE 7/18/2017]
Tony Weber, Director of Houston County Corrections, says Kevin Edwards, 30, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. Weber says the Houston County Sheriff’s Office got a tip Edwards was in an old house in the Wicksburg area. Deputies found hi in the abandoned home alone and were able to take him into custody without incident. Edwards will be charged with Escape 2nd degree.
Edwards was serving time at the Houston County work release facility after being sentenced to 15 years for charges of 2nd degree assault and unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance. He was scheduled to be released from custody October of next year.
Edwards is now being held at the Houston County Jail.
Kevin Ray Edwards, 30, is being sought by Houston County Community Corrections for the charge of Escape 2nd Degree. Edwards is an Alabama Department of Corrections inmate ordered to serve out his sentence in the Houston County Community Corrections Work release program. This charge stems from the fact that Edwards failed to return from a pass on Sunday July 16, 2017 at 6:00 PM. Investigation/Apprehension personnel obtained a warrant for Escape 2nd degree with a $10,000 bond amount after contact was made today with his family.
