Early mornings, long hours and lots of love.
That’s what Anna Valentine says it takes to make sure every child has a chance to eat.
“It’s just special to me because I see them helping a lot of children because there could be children that don’t have food or anything in the home,” said Anna Valentine, Summer Feeding Program Aide.
Valentine is one of many who carry out Dothan Leisure Services’ “Summer Feeding Program” at Andrew Belle Community Center.
“It’s real important. It helps with their learning and their behavior,” said Valentine.
Dothan’s Summer Meal program will feed 750 children two meals a day for eight weeks. Through an assortment of cold and hot meals, students get the nutrients they need.
And keeping kids enjoying summer fun is a mission Valentine takes to heart.
“I try to encourage them to eat because it’s good food for them you know,” said Valentine.
The FREE Summer Feeding Program meals are available for children and teens 18 and younger.
Breakfast and lunch will be served Monday thru Friday at the following locations:
-Andrew Belle Youth Center
-Hawk Houston Boys and Girls Club
