On July 25th, 2014 the Dothan Police Department responded to the 3200 block of Fortner Street following a 9-1-1 emergency call in which a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, officer’s found an elderly female lying unresponsive on the side of the road as well as the driver of the vehicle, who appeared unharmed. The elderly female was transported to Flowers Hospital where she succumbed to the injuries suffered as a result of the collision.

Members of the Dothan Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and through preliminary investigation determined the victim, Darlene Dean, 71 years of age was struck while walking in the roadway. There were no indications of impairment in the driver of the vehicle involved. Investigators were advised that Dean suffered from a mental condition and had been reported missing moments before the accident.

The Dothan Police Department extends its condolences to all parties involved in this tragic incident.
